Hi There, I know I know, its been foreverrrrr! I do apologize for being MIA for so long, but sometimes you just need to push pause and take a break. That is precisely what I had to do. With so much new going on, I needed to take a break from Our Perfect Palette, and no, I did not anticipate to be gone this long. During my break, I was able to focus on launching my own business, yup your girl is a BUSINESS OWNER!! I’m also a little more acquainted with the West Coast since my one year anniversary just passed, it’s so crazy how time flies!
So what have I been up to since I was not cooking up reciepes and blogging on OPP?
In June, I finally launched my own company, called Dabira Candle Company. Which is going to be your new favorite candle company! Dabira (Pronounced “DAB-E-RAH”) is a Yoruba word with a dual meaning serenity, and God Does Wonders.
Dabira Candle is always a way for me to give back to my country, Nigeria. A portion of each candle sale will be donated to an orphanage in Nigeria. I am planning a visit in December and part of that trip I will be visiting the orphanage and giving my donations to the orphanage. Stay tuned because I will be recapping that trip.
Sometimes it really amazes me what one person can do as soon as you put your mind to it and you have faith. The launch was nowhere a walk in the park, but I have learned so much, and I am so grateful for it. I do plan on sharing those tips with you in a post in the future on steps I took to launch my business. 3 steps that I always choose to follow when making a plan I am sharing with you down below:
- Write it down, and tell 2-3 people. I still love to think big picture and really visualize what I am thinking about. For me, if I start to tell 2-3 people, it becomes somewhat real to me. Telling someone I trust also makes me more accountable. Once I started talking about the candle company, and become serious, I had people checking in, and that made me feel good.
- Invest in it; for me, that meant taking candle classes to really perfect my craft. I started watching youtube videos to learn a little more, but having a hands-on experience and also an expert to refer to is fantastic.
- Set a date; For me, I wrote the date down and downloaded a countdown app. I did push the date back 2 times, and that was OKAY. I figured it would be better to launch it when it was in a better place. You also have to realize it will never be 100% perfect, and that is okay. You need to be able to improve and get feedback.
I hope these tips are helpful for you and would love to hear what other ways you can hold yourself accountable for setting a goal.
Until next time!
