The one great thing about living in a new city is exploring the food options. I rarely dine in San Francisco, but I’m going to start making an effort. Going into SF on the weekend is the same feeling I use to have about going to BK from Harlem. It seemed like a journey and a half, and I rarely did it. I’m exaggerating a bit on the SF side; the only thing that makes it difficult is that transit here is a whole hot mess! Also, don’t get me started on the crazy hills and why I’m terrified of driving in SF.
Anyways, I did make the venture to SF, and I’m so glad I did because my friend took me to this gem of a restaurant called Roka Akor, which is a restaurant that serves Modern Japanese food with strong drinks, and beautiful decor! This is a great spot for a date night, girls night, or any night you want some good food!
We dined in the downstairs part of the restaurant and had no wait to get to our table.
It’s always a good idea to make a reservation I think we just got lucky. I love using Open Table, and you get rewards for booking your reservation in advance.
A good way to get a range of what type of dishes they serve is to start with some appetizers. The sweet corn with butter and soy was terrific, and this is not your typical corn it was grilled and seasoned to perfection. You can’t go wrong with edamame, and ours was delicious, not soggy, and had the right amount of crisp to it.
The Japanese style friend chicken stole the show here. I’ve had Korean Fried chicken, and that’s delicious, but this Japanese fried chicken hit the spot and was served with a smoked chili aioli.
As far as drinks, the cocktails here are endless, and the bartenders do an excellent job! Fancy drinks with fancy cups are definitely a thing here.
We didn’t even make it to an entree because we were so full off the starters and the drinks. We honestly were saving room for dessert. My friend told me this is her absolute favorite dessert, and frankly, the reason why she comes to this restaurant. I knew we couldn’t have dined here without trying this chocolate molten lava cake served with vanilla ice cream. I thought the food was good, but this cake tho ?!?!
This Chocolate cake stole the show, and I am honestly not a lover of chocolate cake like that. This cake was decadent, moist, and had the right mix between dark and light chocolate. I am excited to come back to this place and try the rest of the menu. If you are venturing out to SF soon, be sure to stop by and check out Roka Akur.
