I recently checked out Louis Wine Bar and immediately was sold when one of my friends told me there was wine on tap. It was the perfect outing to hit on the beautiful Sunday we just had in New York. Spring has finally decided to show up, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Lois has 16 wines on tap(yes, you read that right, what else could a girl ask for). Located in East Village off of Avenue C or Loisaida Ave as some like to call the Avenue. The owners Nora O’Malley and Phoebe Connell are two friends who wanted to share their love of wine and great food with fellow New Yorkers.
The vibe inside is very mellow, and chill but could also be since we were there at one on a Sunday at noon.(It’s happy hour somewhere right?). The cool thing about Lois is that you pay one set price. You see wine for 9 dollars, that’s all you pay no need to tip at this bar. Lois is one of the first bars in the city to implement no tipping which makes sense because there is always confusion. Do you tip 20%, 1 dollar, who knows?
There is also a kitchen, so if you are hungry, you can grab a small plate to enjoy with your wine. At Lois, they also offer a rotating seasonal menu that has dishes such as Avocado Arepas, Lemon Baked Eggs for brunch, and an adult pudding snack pack! I love how the menu is an array of items, but all food you have heard of so no need to get intimated.
Like most bars located in the East Village, Lois is a bit small. Inside there are about 4-5 tables, the bar, and window seating which is perfect for people watching! So head there early to grab a spot for your group. The bartenders are very accommodating and knowledgeable. They ask you your preference in wine and will help you pick the perfect glass. I sampled a Rose and Grüner Veltliner I’m sure if I didn’t love the Rose, our bartender would have allowed me to taste all 16 wines until I settled on a glass of wine. Be sure to check out Lois and support this woman owned business!
