New York City is known to many as a melting pot especially when it comes to food. NYC is the one place that you can experience so many different types of food and culture without having to use your passport! In NY we have China Town, Little Italy and now you can get a snapshot of Africa during this month Long celebration. African restaurant week kicked off October 1 and will run until the 22nd. I was fortunate to attend some of the programs and know that next year I plan to attend more. One of the main events during African Restaurant Week was the Food Festival that took place at Industry city in Brooklyn. From the venue to the food, to the music it was a fantastic experience. Upon walking in your greeted by a beautiful outdoor space with people dressed up in their favorite African garments.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the St. Ives pop up mixing bar. It was such a great experience, and I need you all to put it on your summer list. Who doesn’t love a customized face scrub to target your personal needs? You can get all of this for just $12, and this jar will last you months! Once you enter, it’s a very interactive experience from the beginning. You have the option to pick a lotion or a face scrub.
I opted to get the face scrub but will be back for the body lotion.
Harlem Eat Up!
In Harlem, Food is more than just food–It’s Culture and Progress. Incorportating Influences from around the globe, Harlem’s culinary scene is constantly evolving and expanding.
It’s officially summertime in NY as we were finally greeted with some warm weather this past week! Summertime brings warm weather, concerts and FOOD Festivals! I’m so excited to be kicking off my summer festival series in my backyard Harlem. This past weekend I had the pleasure of being able to attend the Harlem Eat up Grand Tasting that took place Saturday & Sunday at Morningside Park in Harlem. First, let me back up and tell you guys exactly what Harlem Eat up is. The festival is in its third installment this year as Harlem’s own Food Festival. Marcus and Herb Karlitz are the co-founders of this fantastic event. Harlem Eat Up is a celebration of everything Harlem. Bubby’s // Let’s Do Brunch
If you don’t know Brunch is my favorite meal, and I love trying out new spots. Once I saw that Timeout New York crowned bubby’s the best pancake stack I knew I had to give it a try. Bubby’s has been around since 1990 and has been serving up Brunch since then. I had a chance to check out the location in TriBeCa, but there is also a location located on the high line. Once you walk through the door, you instantly become a part of the family. Everyone who works at Bubby’s is so friendly and accommodating! On the menu, you’ll find some amazing brunch dishes like buttermilk biscuits, Nutella pancakes(which are AMAZING), and eggs benedict. Bubby’s is a family friendly spot and a good place for you and friends to grab brunch as well. That’s what I did a couple of my friends headed to Bubby’s around 11:30 and me. Bubby’s does not take reservations on the weekends, so its best to get there early to avoid the wait.
Ipsy Glam Bag Subscription review
The Ipsy bag is a beauty subscription service founded by YouTuber Michelle Phan. I tried this out for about four months, and I want to share my thoughts with you. I love trying out subscription services because who doesn’t like receiving a gift every month 🙂 Once you go on to the website. You fill out a survey so they can get an understanding of what your taste in beauty is. Each month you receive deluxe samples and some full-sized beauty products from time to time. Which is a great deal for only 10 dollars a month? If you ever wanted to try out the newest makeup item, a trail size is the best way to do it. After you receive each bag, you have the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire and give Ipsy your preference.Continue Reading
Lois // Wine on Tap!
I recently checked out Louis Wine Bar and immediately was sold when one of my friends told me there was wine on tap. It was the perfect outing to hit on the beautiful Sunday we just had in New York. Spring has finally decided to show up, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Restaurant Review // The Edge
A few of my girlfriends and I decided to take advantage of Black Owned Restaurant week happening in Harlem. This is similar to the restaurant week that happens in big cities all over the country. In which certain restaurants offer a prefix menu for a set price. Black Owned Restaurant Week offers the same deal, but you get to support Black Owned Business. The Edge was one of the restaurants participating and I must admit that a 3-course meal for $30 is hard to turn down! Check out the link here to find other restaurants that are participating.
Flurries, Curry, and Elephants.
As the temperature starts to drop, nothing warms me up more than some good comfort food. This week I decided to dive into my spice cabinet and pull up some of the spices I picked up in Thailand. Last May me and a few of my girlfriends (9 to be exact) made our way to Thailand for a 9-day trip! Just to give you guys a quick recap if you’re thinking about going to Thailand, you definitely should. I didn’t expect to fall in LOVE with the food, but I did. I wanted mango and sticky rice at the end of every meal, and I’m very sad I can’t start my day with a Thai Iced Coffee(if you haven’t ever had it you can recreate it; coffee + condensed milk–that simple).
Thailand is so beautiful and has so much culture for you to see. It is also a very affordable vacation, and I was able to get a great price on my ticket. (I believe it was around 800 which is a steal) If you know the exact dates you would like to travel I would track your flights with the mobile app called Hopper. This app has changed the way I travel and saved me tons of money! It tells you the best time to travel and alerts you when prices drop for your trips.
When you arrive in Thailand expect to get some meals for $10 or less, and do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a SPA! Make sure you splurge on this too. I must admit I took the cheap way the first time around and got a 65 minute massage for about 20 bucks, and let me just say that was an interesting experience. Spend the $150 and really treat yourself you won’t regret it.
