Happy February! We made it through our first month of the year! Let’s check in on your goals? Hopefully, we are all still striving for greatness. You know #NewYearNewMe? I can say I successfully have gotten back in the gym this week. Yes, it did take me about a good 4 weeks to do it, but it doesn’t matter because‚I’m in there now.
Another one of my goals this year entailed breaking up with Starbucks to help me save some money. I know it sounds crazy, how was I going to survive without my daily cup from the Green Goddess. Instead of going cold turkey and stopping all my visits I wanted to treat Starbucks more as a treat/pick me up.
Had a bad day? Let’s go to Starbucks. Completed a project? Let’s go to Starbucks.
I had to get out of my daily habit of visiting regularly, and when you put numbers behind it becomes shocking.
Let’s do some quick math:
- The average Grande drink at Starbucks costs about 6 dollars
- If you visit once a day for 5 days, that’s 30 dollars you are spending on coffee a week
- Which is $120 a month at Starbucks
- That’s not taking into account any of the extra treats you find yourself buying once you’re at Starbucks.
That’s just unnecessary amounts of money spent at Starbucks. So instead of going once a day. I try only to treat myself once a week. So without my daily cup of coffee, I knew I was going to need something to help get me through the day. I have heard a lot of people replacing coffee with matcha. I never really gave it a try, until a couple of months ago I went to Cha Cha Matcha with a friend, and loved everything about it! I decided to give it a try and make some matcha lattes at home.
For those of you living under a rock and who have never heard of matcha. Matcha is powdered green tea leaves. Basically, an expensive green powder that is loaded with many benefits. Here are 5 reasons why you should consider giving it a try:
It gives you energy without having the jitters or crashing which is another reason why I love it. Matcha also contains caffeine, and you get three times more than you would in a regular cup of tea. Matcha also has the same amount of caffeine in a brewed cup of coffee. Once I heard that I was sold, and knew I had to give it a try.
For the past two weeks, I have been making matcha lattes before work. I do enjoy it, and it is a nice change to my daily cup of coffee. There are some days that I just need coffee in the morning, so I deem that as my weekly treat day.
I also add in a scoop of collagen into my matcha latte‚ I have started with 1 scoop, but it suggests 1-2 scoops. A 2-scoop serving contains 18 grams of protein, another reason why adding it to your latte. I use the Collagen Peptides from Vital Proteins it is tasteless too, so you don’t have to worry about it altering your beverage. Check it out and read about all the benefits. It has but one of the biggest ones it improves hair, skin, nails, and joints.
I have been playing around with a couple of different recipes, but found the one below to be my favorite. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
