Who doesn’t love Trader Joes? When I lived in New York that was my go-to grocery store, before me living in New York, I’ve never shopped at TJs because in New Jersey we have so many different grocery stores. I must admit at first I was a little concerned because everything was private brands and not the typical brands I am used to shopping. I’m so happy I decided to try out these items because now I LOVE Trader Joe’s, and the staff at Trader Joes is always so helpful! Do you know if you want to sample something all you have to do is ask!! They will open up a package for you if you want to try something before you spend your money. Also if you don’t like something, they will take it back no questions asked! This is so great because it has allowed me to be able to be a little courageous and try different things. I’m sharing below some of the items that are healthy-ish and have helped me keel on track with my balanced diet. Below are a few of my healthier favorite items.
- Soy Chorizo– I would have never thought that this item would be so good! I’m so happy that the staff was sampling this dish one day for the free samples. The soy Chorizo was taken out of its casing and cooked with frozen corn. It was so good and such a quick meal. You can use the Soy Chorizo with eggs, place this in your meat sauce. If you want to use a meat substitute, this is a great option! I’ve paired it up with my pasta sauce and added it to my Cauliflower Gnocchi.
- Plantain Chips– Not much explanation needed here. These chips are amazing and a perfect healthy snack. At all times I always keep two bags of these in my house. Not overly salty or sweet, but this is the ideal snack.
- Cauliflower Gnocchi– I know the thought of this sounds crazy, but with the right amount of sauce, this can help kick a pasta craving. Cauliflower Gnocchi is by no means a perfect subsite for regular Gnocci, but its good for its purpose. Pan fry it with a little water, and you have a whole meal in under 15 minutes.
- Brown Rice– This is a staple in my house especially when I’m meal prepping. When I don’t feel like busting out my rice cooker, I throw one of these pouches in the microwave. This box comes with 3 pouches, and can make a lot of meals for you!
- Cauliflower Crust- I was very skeptical about this because pizza is one of my favorite foods. This cauliflower crust is worth the try! Make sure you follow the directions carefully as I’ve read many reviews where people were not successful. I added some oils and spices to the frozen crust to give it some flavor. I also made a bbq chicken pizza, and it was delicious!
- Turkey Burger– The turkey burgers are amazing by themselves, or you can toss them on a salad and have an easy meal in less than 10 mins!
- Cauliflower Rice- If you don’t have the patience to shred up cauliflower yourself this riced cauliflower will become your best friend! I love making chicken fried “rice” with this its a great way to mask the cauliflower taste.
- Cruciferous Crunch Salad– My all-time favorite salad at Trader Joes! This salad is terrific because of its already a premixed mixture that includes Kale, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, and Cabbage. This salad is an excellent base for me to use on salads or if I wanted to make a Taco Salad, it has the perfect crunch.
- Non-Dairy Creamer– A friend told me she was obsessed with this creamer a few years ago, and I’m glad I ended up purchasing this item! The flavor hazelnut is my go-to creamer! You add this to your cup of coffee, and I find myself becoming a barista every morning.
- Steel-cut Oatmeal– If you are ever in a rush or need to eat breakfast at work. Steal Cut Oatmeal is a quick breakfast. The oatmeal is frozen already, so you don’t have to worry about measuring and getting the wrong measurements. You can dress this bowl up with fresh fruit, and you have a nice balanced meal!
Hope you enjoyed my list and would love to hear what you are trying at Trader Joe’s that you love!
Until Next time!
